Modern Living is an ongoing series of performances and videos sited in iconic modern homes around the world. Mining these “ruins” of modernism for their hidden choreographies and radical social experiments, Gerard & Kelly pose questions around memory, the architecture of intimacy, and queer space.
Gerard & Kelly will continue the project in 2019 at three houses in and around Paris designed by the Swiss-born architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier. The Festival d’Automne à Paris, in partnership with the Centre des monuments nationaux and Fondation Le Corbusier, will present a new chapter of Modern Living at the Villa Savoye. Gerard & Kelly will also create performances at the architect’s Studio-Apartment alongside an exhibition at the Maison LaRoche.
CalArts – California Institute of the Arts and dean Dimitri Chamblas have invited Gerard & Kelly as artists-in-residence to develop Modern Living, collaborating with students, alumni, and faculty who will travel to Paris to perform at Villa Savoye.
