Yiyl

“Yiyl” is a performance about the loss of identity. The human transforms into an object. The scenes fulfil a double purpose: not only do they hold an element of detachment – both physical and emotional – from the body’s integrity, but they also create a certain « gender limbo »: The movement vocabulary, as well as the scenes, are chosen so as to not make the performer too identifiable in her gender.

Minimal lighting, simple movement repetition and the chromatic effects of « white », « black » and « transparent », conjure a space where everything appears flat and devoid of any depth, whether it is the colour of the light or the very substance of a person’s mind.
